The phrase “in this carload” comes from the poem written in pencil in the sealed freight car.  The piece is survivor Dan Pagis’ breathtaking tribute to the victims of the Holocaust.  With her last words, Woman conveys a heartrending mix of confusion, fear, betrayal, terror.  As pictured, the poem is etched in both Hebrew and English in the victims’ memorial at Kozentrationslager Belzec, near the small village of Belzec in Poland’s Lublin district.
